Amsterdam Corelli Collective are a vibrant and energetic ensemble of fourteen young musicians who perform without conductor.

Founded by artistic director Ryuko Reid in 2013, thirteen string players and a harpsichordist were brought together through their passion for baroque string music and storytelling. The sound world of the early string orchestra is almost forgotten and it is the aim of Amsterdam Corelli Collective to breathe new life into early orchestral string music through programs that tell stories and speak to the audience.

The ensemble pays tribute to Arcangelo Corelli, whose works were published in Amsterdam in the eighteenth century. Using his compositions and the surrounding repertoire of the concerto grosso and orchestral string music of the time, Amsterdam Corelli Collective surprise and excite in their performances, bringing new perspectives and new sounds to old music.

Amsterdam Corelli Collective have enjoyed performances throughout the Netherlands and Europe, playing in major music venues, festivals and competitions. They have performed at such notable venues in the Netherlands as Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and in 2016 they won a prize to perform in the major Dutch music festival, Grachtenfestival, which included a live performance on Dutch national radio and television. They also performed at the Utrecht Oude Muziek Fringe Festival; in 2014 in Tivoli Vredenburg’s Hertz Zaal and in 2015 with soprano Myriam Arbouz in Utrecht’s beautiful Pieterskerk.

In 2015 they were chosen for Ambronay Cultural Encounter Centre’s prestigious Eeemerging Project and in July 2015 Amsterdam Corelli Collective were finalists in York Early Music Festival’s International Young Artist’s Competition, with their performance featured on British national radio channel BBC Radio 3.

In 2016 they were selected for the International Young Artist’s Presentation in Antwerp, Belgium, which led them to be invited to perform at Alba Nova Festival 2017. They return to Antwerp in 2018 to perform at AMuz, together with soprano Hana Blažíková.
